Notion turns its workspace into a hub for AI agents

Notion's mid-2026 updates add external AI agents, a developer platform and a dedicated Agents iOS app — pushing agents to the centre of the product.

Notion has spent 2026 steadily rebuilding itself around AI agents. In May it launched a developer platform for building AI workflows and agents on top of the workspace — a move TechCrunch described as turning Notion into “a hub for AI agents.” The rollout has continued since: version 3.6 (1 July) added support for external agents and HTML blocks, and on 8 July Notion shipped a dedicated Notion Agents app for iOS.

The pitch is that agents can act across your notes, docs and databases — drafting, updating and pulling information together — rather than just answering questions in a side panel.

Why it matters: agents are only useful if they live where your work already is, and Notion is betting its all-in-one workspace is the right home. The thing to weigh is cost: Notion’s AI now runs on a credit-based model, so heavier agent use can get pricey — one of the trade-offs we cover in our full Notion review.
